Day One, or One Day?
Day one or one day? Right now, as you read this, it's one of the most important choices you will make this week, and you make it every single day.
Good morning my fellow DOERS! How are you doingggg? It’s the last day of the first half of the year (what a handful of words) and I’m here to just say, you are breathing, ‘goaling’, reviewing and that’s fine! You are doing well jor!
I’m taking a ride to work at this time 6:50am on a Monday morning in Lagos, Nigeria and well, I decided to write to you. (I miss my remote working but we move) 🤣
I’m here to just share briefly on the choice between One day... and Day One.
I’ve heard a lot of: One day, I'll write that book. One day, I'll get in shape. One day, I'll start that business. One day, I will travel. One day, one day one day… That is the anthem of the future. It's a fantasy of the future that absolves you from the work of the present. Yes, I said it! A future you don’t even control. It’s pride thinking you can leave the commitment of today for tomorrow, that’s how I see it.
Day One is different. Day One is not just a declaration of intention. It's the decision that the future is no longer a place you dream about, but a place you are actively building and living in, starting with the next stone, the next verb(refer to my last letter), the next five minutes, the next sentence for the book you are writing, the next call you make, the next…
Your transformation is not going to be a lightning strike. It will not be a thunderous event, for many people it is not. It will be quiet. It will be the hum of your computer as you write your first sentence. It will be the sound of your own voice making the call. It will be the waking up to go to work even when I want to lay in bed this cold rainy morning!
That is the sound of Day One.
The person you want to be is not a future-tense fantasy. That person is a collection of present-tense actions. Your success story will not be written in one glorious chapter(event). It will be written in the quiet consistency of your daily habits. This very minute, the next and the next…
So my challenge to you is this. When you finish reading this, don't just feel inspired. That's temporary. I want you to feel RESPONSIBLE. Responsible for the identity you are building. Brick by brick. It might not seem like it but you are building. The result might not be visible enough yet but it’s building up. Light is coming!
So right now, cast your first vote. Lay your first brick. Start your chain. (Refer to my last letter HERE)
This is for me as much as it’s for you. It’s a new week and let’s get into the flow, not ‘hustle’.
Finally, this was an afterthought but let me say this for maybe one person who will read. Yesterday I was complaining to my husband how tired I was and I didn’t want to go to work. That alone was enough to make me wake up to a draggy week, anxious and all. But last night I caught myself and decided to wake up with intention, and remind myself that this week I am stepping out RESPONSIBLE and in JOY. After morning devotion, I started dancing in front of the mirror, got ready for work and that little activity makes me feel like I can take on the world this week! I did some affirmations of how great and excellent I am and oh wow! I’m so looking forward to work this week. You can take a cue from this. That tired, negative feeling is temporary, just switch it up! We will be fine, you will be fine ☺️
Nice gisting with you.
